Mise-en-scene

In the extract I chose to watch from "Wednesday", the use of camera angles, editing, mise-en-scene, and sound all lay a role in creating meaning and elevate the emotions in this film. This clip also makes use of the characters and the wardrobe to signify and heighten their personalities, over all expressing the

To begin, throughout the first couple of scenes, one can see the use of close up and POV shot is used to signify Wednesday's emotions, explaining that her very dull mood is caused by her dis- approval of her parents decision to send her away to boarding school. This especially can be seen when the shot switches between a two-shot between Wednesday and her parents. During this scene you can really see how Wednesdays personality comes into play with her short and witty answers and how she is significantly different from her parents and don't approve of their views. For the following scene, upon arrival to the school the gloomy setting and the gray scenery display the "outcast" Appeal. Upon entering the school and the principles office, the dark aesthetic paired with the dark bolded colored furniture, compliment her class, establishing that the she is a person of authority. The crow laced on the principles desk adds to her sinister demeanor as well.

Another aspect that contributed to the extract is Mise-en-scene. Wednesdays dark clothing compared to the other students and even the principles bright white suit shows her sinister and "dead" demeanor. The play on the dark wardrobe and the her witty attitude shows her personality. For example, this is scene when Wednesday meets her room mate. Her room mate Enid is very energetic and loves bright colors, while Wednesday is the complete opposite. The set designers show this by having Wednesday's side of the room dark and gloomy, and Enid's side of the room bright and aesthetically pleasing.

Overall, each of these elements play an important role in establishing the overall vibe that Wednesday has. Each element displayed it purpose, whether it was the use of the two-shot angles to show Wednesday's parents affection, and her disgust she has for them, or whether it be the set design, where Enid has a very colorful side, while Wednesday has a very dull , dark side. These elements allow he audience to see the comparison and establish the different relationships. Each of these components played a token in creating the basic elements  of this film.

Blog Post Critiques

Today I critiqued Dellroy's and Nicole's Blog post on camera angles/shots. Dellroy and his partner accurately executed the camera angles and shots to the best of their abilities. Some of the angles give a comedic effect, and really give the audience a good laugh. Each shot accurately displays its title, despite there being no description for the shots, it was over all still a great assignment. Personally, I would give them A plus. The post was great and could be used for future reference as well, if they ever want to look back on it and review what they learned prior. One thing I would change about the blog post is the layout of it. I believe they have potential, and with a little more work they can achieve more with their camera skills. One particular Camera shot I believe they accurately demonstrated is over the shoulder. The shot displays at an angle over Nicole's shoulder, while precisely catching a view of what the foreground and background looks like. This shot by f...

First Day Filiming

Our fist day filming was a bit challenging to say the least. It actually took us a quite a while to film and it made us a little behind with our work. Even though we had a few obstacles, we pushed through and got 41 seconds done out of  the 1:51 that is required. These two clips consist of our production "Company"/name, and our Movie title. A lot of people have questioned us on the title of the movie, and it really has do with Monday being the day of the week that no one likes and Camila is considered the character that no one likes nor care for.  Our hallway scene probably was the scene that took us the longest to film but we thought this scene was imperative when capturing the emotion we wanted to evoke. We put this scene in to show the uniformity of the students in comparison to our character Camila who is seen as the outcast. This scene was kind of a filler; it was used to introduce Camila but also put in some of the credits.
