In this extract, "Agent Karter", the film makers used the elements of sound, camera angles and movements to evoke an eerie and mischievous feeling for the audience. The use of mise-en-scene is also used to emphasize the imbalance of and sound to emphasize the key movements in the film.
A few of the scenes in this clip directly display the aspect of mise en scene/lighting used to creating meaning and evoke a certain emotion. One of the emotions include dominance created by the back lighting that is used. By using the back lighting, its puts a highlight on one of the antagonist in the film, displaying his place amongst the rest, especially with Peggy considering that she is the only woman at her place of work. Peggy is constantly belittled and this is shown by the use of lowkey lighting whenever the antagonist is speaking to her. The red color lighting is also used too display mischievous behavior, telling the audience that Peggy is about to do something she is not suppose to.
The editing in this film is mainly used to show contrast and comparison. An example of this is when it is used to show the difference of power between Peggy and her boss. Simultaneity editing is used in the very first scene to show cause and affect. Showing the audience that this is the following event that led to the current event that is happening. in the next scene where Peggy was looking at the picture of Captain America is it clear example of symbolism. The symbolism in this clip is used to evoke sadness, and is also a Deimotif of Captain America, where he was looking at a picture of Peggy, the exact same way before his plane crash.
The sound used in this excerpt is this emphasize the key moment and movements in this film. For example, in the scene where Peggy was listening to the recording on the phone or music type of non-diagenetic sound was used to show that something is going to happen. Whether that something was bad or good, this aspect alone allows the viewer to ponder on that specific sound and create suspense within the clip. Synchronous sound was also used to emphasize Peggy's movements typically when she was fighting. The movements and the sound paired exaggerated her hits, almost allowing the audience to not only see and hear the men's pain, but also feel it. It also causes the audience to have an enlightenment, showing they may have underestimated Peggy alongside her boss.
The camera angles in this film are used to show the imbalance of power for instants. Well angle is she is allowed to show authority and inferiority. Authority being paired with her boss as he stands over her and if you already asked that he is sitting down and has to look up to him over the shoulder and in zoom is also used to emphasize each characters emotions. For example, Peggy seems to be bored and undermine her boss of you, and her hand seems annoyed and snobby.
Each of the elements in the film, emphasize the unseen on hidden characteristics of Peggy, and how she is overlooked and underestimated in her work field. Low-key lighting and high key lighting is used to show the imbalance of power, low angle and over the shoulder is used to show insecurity and authority, sound is used to emphasize Peggy's power and symbolism in simultaneously editing, is used to show connections and relationships. Each of the components enabled the filmmaker to invoke the various emotions, and enhance his plot.
